According to legend, French goldsmith Henri LeBeau became lost in the Black Hills of South Dakota during the gold rush of the 1870s. Believing he was dying of thirst and starvation, he laid down to die and instead, dreamt that he saw a mountain stream with grapevines growing on its banks.
Upon awakening, he began to walk and just over a rise, he found a stream with grapevines growing on its banks just as he had in his dream. Out of gratitude, Henri dedicated his life to creating jewelry in the shapes of grape clusters and leaves fashioned in the classic rose, green and yellow gold that you see incorporated into nearly every piece of black hills gold jewelry.
